Iceland: Quick Tips
❄️ Uncommon Iceland Travel Tips❄️
Iceland is quickly becoming my favorite country & I feel like I’ve only gotten a small taste of what it has to offer! If you are planning a trip to this magical land, then it’s important to do your research and make sure you are adequately prepared. As an additional resource here are some tips that you maybe haven’t found in your preparation.
✈️: Your flight will land at Keflavik Int’l Airport aka Reykjavik- Keflavik Airport, this airport is actually about an hr away from Reykjavík city center (your flight details might say Reykjavík but it’s really Keflavik)
🚙: You’ll want to rent a 4wd vehicle. Even if snow or rain is not on the forecast, weather can change at any moment and it’s good to be prepared. You can rent a standard car from the airport or a specialty car like this defender from a company like @icerovers who do airport drop off and pickup!
🪨: South Coast is where all the ‘popular’ stops are, but will be the most tourist dense area as well. This includes; The Blue Lagoon, Golden Circle, Plane Wreck, Black Sand Beach, and popular waterfalls. All of which are worth seeing and within a 3 hour drive from Reykjavik but it’s also worth the time to plan out some less visited spots as well.
Just be sure you are being respectful of the land and the land owners if you get off the beaten path.
🍩: There is a little coffee shop in the parking lot of Seljalandssfoss called “The snack Shack” I recommend the Berliner Donut - it is the best thing ever created in the existence of Donuts.
💦: When you stop at Skogafoss Waterfall fill up your water bottles from the river, I promise you it will be the best water you’ve ever drank.
📸: Pictures are awesome & I love being able to capture moments but Iceland has a healing power that not many places I’ve been to do. Take time to put the camera and phone down and just sit, breathe in the air & feel the wind on your face.
